Starting out as a new driver in south Mississauga

If you’re new to driving, start with Beginner Driver Education (BDE). Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation regulates it, and only approved providers can deliver it. Teen Drivers is an MTO-approved Beginner Driver Education course provider. You can check that for yourself: Ontario publishes its list of approved driving schools on ontario.ca and tells new drivers to look a school up before paying.

Completing an approved BDE course cuts the wait for your G2 road test from twelve months after your G1 to eight. The course is a minimum of 40 hours, split between classroom or online learning, in-car training and flexible instruction. Our classroom and E-Learning formats both meet that minimum. Classroom sessions are held at our Streetsville location, and E-Learning can be done from anywhere.

How the in-car part works

Your instructor picks you up and drops you off at the same place, your home or a nearby high school, and lessons use the roads close to where you live. Lessons are taught in English. Ministry rules cap in-car training at two hours a day, so the driving is spread over several sessions rather than done in one go. There’s also a one-year limit, counted from your classroom start date, so leave yourself room if you’re working toward a particular test date.

Road test day

Your road test is booked through DriveTest. The DriveTest centre for Mississauga is on Longside Drive (number 255) at the city’s northern end, so leave time for the drive from south Mississauga when you choose a test slot. One change catches people out: parallel parking was dropped from the full G road test in 2021. It is still part of the G2 test. For the current G2 and G fees, and what a retest costs, see our guide to current G2 and G road test fees.
